Verification Policy
A plain explanation of what SaccoShares checks before information is published, and what remains the buyer's and seller's responsibility to confirm.
1. What SaccoShares is
SaccoShares is a classifieds marketplace for SACCO share transfers in Kenya. We are not a broker, dealer, SACCO, or financial adviser, and we do not process the share transfer itself — that happens directly between the buyer, the seller, and the SACCO, under that SACCO's own by-laws.
2. What we do check
- SACCO profile figures published on our SACCO directory are entered from that SACCO's own published annual report or audited financial statements, and reviewed by our team against the source document before the profile is made public. See our Data Methodology page for exactly how each figure is sourced.
- Listing form fields(share count, price, county) are checked for valid format and reasonable range at submission — we confirm the listing is well-formed, not that the seller owns the shares described.
- Contact details a buyer or seller shares through the platform are masked until a deliberate reveal, and inquiry channels are rate-limited to reduce spam and abuse.
3. What we do not check
We do not verify, and you should not assume:
- That a seller actually owns the shares in their listing.
- A seller's or buyer's identity, creditworthiness, or intentions.
- That a specific SACCO will approve a given transfer, or that the seller has already obtained any required SACCO board or committee approval.
- The legitimacy or regulatory standing of a SACCO named in a listing.
- Whether shares in a listing are free of any lien, charge, or encumbrance.
These limits are also set out in our Terms of Service (Sections 4 and 9).
4. Buyer due-diligence checklist
Before agreeing to buy shares found on SaccoShares, we recommend you:
- Contact the SACCO directly to confirm the seller is a registered member in good standing.
- Ask the SACCO to confirm the seller's current share balance before paying anything.
- Complete the transfer through the SACCO's own process — see our How It Works guide.
- Never send payment before the SACCO confirms the transfer is in progress or approved.
- Read our safety guide on avoiding SACCO share-transfer scams.
5. Seller responsibilities
As a seller, you are responsible for listing only shares you genuinely own or are authorised to sell, providing accurate listing details, and complying with your SACCO's by-laws and transfer process. Full obligations are in Section 4 of our Terms of Service.
6. Reporting a concern
If you believe a listing or SACCO profile is inaccurate, fraudulent, or should be removed, contact us at our contact page or email support@saccoshares.org. We review reports and remove listings that breach our Terms of Service.
